Description
This unique, rubber bracelet has a flat square band with a rectangular charm. The sterling silver charm features a sandblasted portrait of Aphrodite, bordered by the traditional Greek Key motif. The rubber band is strung through the charm, with the black showing through the cutout. (History) In art and architecture, a meander is a decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif. Such a design is also called the Greek Fret or Greek Key design, although these are modern words. The name "meander" recalls the twisting and turning path of the Maeander River. Meanders were among the most important symbols in ancient Greece; they, perhaps, symbolized infinity and unity; many ancient Greek temples incorporated the sign of the meander. Aphrodite (Greek: Ἀφροδίτη) is the classical Greek goddess of love, sexual rapture, and beauty. Because of her beauty, other gods feared that jealousy would interrupt the peace between them and lead to war, and so Zeus married her to Hephaestus who was not viewed as a threat. However, Aphrodite became instrumental in the Eros and Psyche legend, and later was both Adonis' lover and a surrogate mother.
